Featured Artist: Brandi Carlile
A few tracks from one of my all-time faves
I ordered my first Brandi after hearing her passionate anthem "The Story" in 2007. Soon after, I discovered one of my favorite folk songs of all time, "Turpentine," on the same album. Since then, I've enjoyed her 2009 release Give Up the Ghost and several of her ealier selections. She's definitely a rising star in contemporary folk music, so check out my list of the Top 10 Brandi Carlile Songs and let me know what you think of my selections of her best.

A lesser-known song that deserves more attention
"In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel
There are so many good songs on Gabriel's awesome 1986 album So, but this is probably my favorite. Packed with emotion, it kind of makes me want to stand outside my house with a boom box on my shoulder.

"Blessed" by Brett Dennen
Like many folk musicians, Brett Dennen has talents as an singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist. While his voice is an acquired taste, it's hard to argue with the nimble acoustic guitar work on this upbeat number.

"It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday" by Boyz II Men
I don't want to bid farewell to this classic which helped bring a cappella into the mainstream in the early 90s. I always thought it was a B2M orignal, but it was actually first recorded in 1975 by soul singer G.C. Cameron.

Something Unique to Send You on Your Way
"Loretta" by Lyle Lovett
You've gotta love Lyle... especially his early work. This track from 2009's Natural Forces bring me back to those days with its piano feature and pleasantly simplistic melody about a good old country gal.
