Song of the Month
(Hopefully) something new for you to check out
"It's Only Paper" by Ozomatli
With a sound like Sugar Ray, this recent release by one of L.A.'s most popular bands is a great summer tune. If you get a chance, also check out some of their older horn-based latin music like "After Party".

Featured Artist: Ben Lee
A few tracks from one of my all-time faves
This Aussie singer/songwriter does pop, folk, upbeat, melancholy, political, satirical and just about everything in between. Most people know him for "Catch My Disease", but he's done a ton of great music in his last three U.S. releases. Check out my list of the Top 10 Ben Lee Songs and let me know what you think of my selections of his best.

The Gem
A lesser-known song that deserves more attention
"World Spins Madly On" by The Weepies
This is one of those unique songs that just mesmerizes you. To me, it feels like the soundtrack to a movie where you're driving through the rain at night thinking about someone special. Is that weird?

Folk Fascination
Good old fashioned music with acoustic instruments
"Waiting for My Real Life to Begin" by Colin Hay
The former Men at Work lead shows that he's still got that distinctive voice working nicely (along with some nice acoustic guitar work and poignant lyrics). This wouldn't be a bad song for a guy that just turned 40 (if you happened to know someone like that).

A Cappella
Unaccompanied Treasures
"If I Ever Fall in Love " by Shai
This 1992 classic helped spur the a cappella movement by reaching #2 on the pop charts. It's been covered a ton since then, but there's nothing like the original.

Grab Bag
Something Unique to Send You on Your Way
"You're Still a Young Man" by Tower of Power
One of the best horn-based ballads ever, this was Tower of Power's breakthrough hit in 1972. Amazingly, TOP's still going strong today as evidenced by 2009's funky Great American Soulbook. Love those horns!
