Song of the Month
(Hopefully) something new for you to check out
"Parachute" by Ingrid Michaelson
This one's a different kind of song for Ingrid. The edginess and production appeal to younger listeners while the complex rhythms and harmonies satisfy even the most discerning adults. At first I didn't know what to think, but now I just think it's a great song.

Featured Artist: John Denver
A few tracks from one of my all-time faves
It's hard to listen to John Denver and not feel good about yourself...or nature... or your spouse... or about spending Christmas with the Muppets. I only wish I had followed him more when he was alive. Check out my list of the Top 10 John Denver Songs and let me know what you think of my selections of his best.

The Gem
A lesser-known song that deserves more attention
"Hey Julie" by Fountains of Wayne
Most think that FoW was a one-hit wonder with "Stacy's Mom," but they have a couple more songs worthy of a listen, including this acoustic-based 50's style throwback.

Folk Fascination
Good old fashioned music with acoustic instruments
"Out of the Rain" by The Duhks
This Canadian quintet has a nice little catalog of roots music that includes some fine covers and this original from their pleasant 2006 album "Migrations".

A Cappella
Unaccompanied Treasures
"From Me to You" by Bobby McFerrin
Before he was the "Don't Worry, Be Happy" guy, 8-time Grammy winner Bobby McFerrin was doing some innovative chest-slapping solo a cappella work. This upbeat Beatles tune from 1986's Spontaneous Inventions is my favorite from that era.

Grab Bag
Something Unique to Send You on Your Way
"Midnight at the Oasis" by Maria Muldauer
It's such a different song, yet I never fast forward or change the station when it comes on. There's just something mesmerizing about it. If you're in the mood for more rhythm and contemporary production check out the "Cuica Remix" from the What Is Hip Remix Project.
