Song of the Month
(Hopefully) something new for you to check out
"Alligator Sky" by Owl City featuring Shawn Chyrstopher
I know "Fireflies" was overplayed, but it really is a good song (and I was one of the first to recommend it). I wouldn't put this track in the same category, but it is interesting and well-produced. I would liken rap style to Fatboy Slim's "Old Pair of Jeans", one of my favorite tracks of 2006.

Featured Artist: Darius Rucker
A few tracks from one of my all-time faves
It's okay... you can admit it. You thought (like I did) that Darius Rucker was Hootie when he was part of Hootie and the Blowfish, right? It turns out he wasn't, but he was the lead singer for a very popular band in the mid 1990s. Surprisingly, he has reemerged as a country star and (maybe even more surprisingly) I like to listen to him. Check out my list of the Top 10 Darius Rucker Songs and let me know what you think of my selections of his best.

The Gem
A lesser-known song that deserves more attention
"See You In The Spring" by Court Yard Hounds featuring Jakob Dylan
Court Yard Hounds is made up of the two less popular Dixie Chicks. On their own they aren't great, but adding Jakob Dylan to the mix makes for some nice harmonies. I thought this song would be appropriate as we watch the last snow melt away.

Folk Fascination
Good old fashioned music with acoustic instruments
"April, Come She Will" by Simon & Garfunkel
This little ditty is not one of Simon & Garfunkel's most popular songs, but it easily one of the most pleasant. This song was also chosen for its title (and because my friend Jed likes it). Man, I'm ready for warmer weather.

A Cappella
Unaccompanied Treasures
"Criminal on the Cross" by Acappella
I discovered this gem a few months back but have been holding off until the month of Easter to recommend it. It's an upbeat story song with great harmonies that's definitely worth a listen.

Grab Bag
Something Unique to Send You on Your Way
"Seven Days" by Sting
You know a writer is pretty smart when he gets bored with standard time signatures and starts to experiment as Sting did with two songs on 10 Summoner's Tales. This song is written in 5/4 time ("St. Augustine in Hell" is in 7/4 time) but sounds as polished and refined as any you'll find in common time. Eat your heart out, Dave Brubeck!
