Song of the Month
(Hopefully) something new for you to check out
"Price Tag" by Jessie J
I saw her perform this on SNL and thought it was an interesting song by an unusual performer. Upon further review, she's still weird but the song is really catchy.

Featured Artist: Storyhill
A few tracks from one of my all-time faves
I first started following them as Chris & Johnny at St. Olaf in the early 90s (the Limestones even opened for them once). Their Simon & Garfunkel-esque harmonies combined with skillful guitars and thoughtful lyrics have since propelled them to national recognition and a series of quality recordings. I recently saw them in concert in support of their Dan Wilson-produced Shade of the Trees, a subdued but impressive set of tracks. Their catalog is a bit daunting at first, so check out my list of the Top 10 Storyhill Songs and let me know what you think of my selections of their best.

The Gem
A lesser-known song that deserves more attention
"#41" by Dave Matthews Band
This one is more about the title than the actual song. Sure, I like the recording both on the Crash and Live at Luther College albums, but I really chose this one because I just turned 41. Sorry I had to involve you in my midlife crisis.

Folk Fascination
Good old fashioned music with acoustic instruments
"Paper Airplane" by Alison Krauss & Union Station
My favorite pure-voiced vocalist has returned with her band for a new album and they do not disappoint. Yes, the band is excellent and yes, Dan Tyminski's vocals will appease bluegrass traditionalists, but it's Alison we want to hear. She leads the way on several quality tracks (including an excellent cover of Richard Thompson's "Dimming of the Day"), but this one stood out the most in my initial listening.

A Cappella
Unaccompanied Treasures
"Michael Jackson Tribute" by University of Wisconsin MadHatters
A well-produced recording of a terrific arrangement of excellent songs by a very talented group. This is one of the most fun a cappella recordings I have listened to in months.

Grab Bag
Something Unique to Send You on Your Way
"Knee Deep" by Zac Brown Band featuring Jimmy Buffet
I'm not a huge country fan nor am I a parrot head, yet this upbeat collaboration works for me. Maybe it's just because I wouldn't mind being "knee deep in water somewhere" instead of looking out my window at clouds, rain, and 49 degrees.
