Featured Music for February 2012

Song of the Month
(Hopefully) something new for you to check out

"I'm Through" by Ingrid Michaelson

Ingrid's new album Human Again came out on January 24th and it's good.  My favorites include "Ghost", "Fire", "Blood Brothers", and this poignant ballad that showcases the singer-songwriter's beautiful voice.

Featured Artist: Sara Bareilles
A few tracks from one of my all-time faves

After listening to "King of Anything," I decided to add Sara Bareilles to my Pandora playlists.  Over the next few weeks I discovered that she's definitely not a one-hit wonder.  In fact, it was hard to cut my favorite songs down to just ten.  Check out my list of the Top 10 Sara Bareilles Songs and let me know what you think of my selections of her best.

A lesser-known song that deserves more attention

"Silly Love Songs" by Paul McCartney

In honor of Valentines Day and its accompanying music, I give you one of my favorite tracks from Sir Paul.

Silly Love Songs - Wings Greatest

Folk Fascination
Good old fashioned music with acoustic instruments

"Lovesick Blues" by The Little Willies

The Little Willies is a 5-piece band that features Norah Jones (piano, vocals) and Richard Julian (guitar, vocals) playing classic American music. Their second album, For the Good Times, was released in January and features their laid-back takes on some good old-fashioned country songs.  Lovesick Blues is the best of bunch, featuring some nice harmonies between Jones and Julian.

A Cappella
Unaccompanied Treasures

"Holy, Holy, Holy" by The Martins

I remember discovering The Martins' A Cappella Hymns Collection on Napster several years ago when it took a half hour for each track to download.  This one was worth the wait with its strong harmonies and upbeat arrangement of a familiar hymn.

Grab Bag
Something Unique to Send You on Your Way

"29 Ways" by Marc Cohn

February has 29 days this year and Marc Cohn had "29 Ways" in 1991 as one of several excellent songs on his debut album.  I just wish he had followed up that first album with a CD that had more than one good song.
