Song of the Month
(Hopefully) something new for you to check out
"People Should Smile More" by Newton Faulkner
Maybe you've heard "Dream Catch Me," the big single from this Brit's debut album, but personally I prefer "Gone in the Morning", "I Need Something", "Feels Like Home", and this nice litte ditty. If you're a fan of James Morrison, Paolo Nutini, or Jason Mraz, Mr. Faulkner is definitely worth checking out. Plus, you have to admit that the title speaks the truth...

Featured Artist: Alison Krauss
A few tracks from one of my all-time faves
Have you ever heard a purer voice? Whenever I watch American Idol or hear over-produced, over-the-top pop singers, I always think that they should try to be more like Alison Krauss than Mariah Carey. Whether she's doing Bluegrass, Country, Gospel, or Pop, there's no voice that's better. Check out my Favorite Alison Krauss Songs list (including some great deep tracks) to hear her best performances.

The Gem
A lesser-known song that deserves more attention
"Movin' On" by Monte Montgomery
This was a discovery from Austin City Limits several years back. I never really understood how this acoustic guitar virtuoso never became popular, especially with catchy rockers like this one from 1998.

Chill Out
A nice, relaxing song to check out
"I'm All Right" by Madeline Peyroux
You may have been introduced to Miss Peyroux when "Don't Wait Too Long" was featured in a Dockers commercial a few years ago. Her follow-up album features this fun, jazzy Billie Holiday-style breakup song.

Private Picks
Classic rock from T-Sodes, an active duty U.S. Army soldier
"Spinning Wheel" by Blood Sweat & Tears
You have got to love the funky horns and bass on this song! Combine that with some electric guitar, drums, a cowbell (!), and a flute choir and you've got a classic! I'm not really sure what the lyrics mean, but I am pretty sure that the singer is pretty intense about it. Anyone care for a ride on a painted pony?

Kiddie Corner
Quality music for kids and adults alike
"Little Potato" by Metamora
Let's talk about root crops, shall we? I discovered this gem on the NPR morning show and have put it on a bunch of mixes for my kids ever since. I'm not exactly sure how to desribe it other than quaint, quirky, and quite entertaining.
