Song of the Month
(Hopefully) something new for you to check out

"Rock & Roll" by Eric Hutchinson

Okay, so I'm probably a little late on this one, but I finally discovered this fun song after iTunes gave away the video for a week and Cities' 97 put it on their 2008 Sampler.  There's nothing incredible about the lyrics or the singer's voice, but it is incredibly catchy.  Enjoy!

Featured Artist: Van Morrison
A few tracks from one of my all-time faves

George Ivan Morrison definitely has staying power: "Brown Eyed Girl" was released in 1967 and he's still putting out hit albums today.  Whether it's blues, jazz, pop, country, or sacred, Van has done it well.  Check out my Top 10 Van Morrison Songs List for a taste of this great artist.

A lesser-known song that deserves more attention

"Chase the Clouds Away" by The Rembrandts

Most people think that this band was a one-hit wonder for "I'll Be There for You," the theme from the TV show "Friends," but they recorded a few worth pop tunes including "Just the Way It Is, Baby", "Rolling Down the Hill", and this nice acoustic love song.

"Time After Time " by Eva Cassidy

Eva Cassidy was an American singer who died of melanoma in 1996 at the age of 33.  She was unknown outside of her hometown of Washington D.C. until a DJ from England started playing her songs.  Now she has sold over 8 million albums worldwide. This delicate interpretation of a great Cyndi Lauper tune is my personal favorite.

"Sweet Georgia Brown " by Take 6

While most of us know this song as the oft-whistled Harlem Globetrotter's theme, there are actually some words that accompany the melody.  Take 6 jazzes them up on this 2008 release whose album also includes the Grammy-nominated "Shall We Gather at the River."

"Color Him Father " by Keb' Mo'

What does it take to be a good father?  Listen to the lyrics of this heartfelt song.  It's a stripped-down remake of The Winstons' great 1969 R & B hit that Kevin Moore did for his 2001 children's release.  While you're there, give a listen to another quality cover - Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely".
