Song of the Month
(Hopefully) something new for you to check out

"Pitter-Pat" by Erin McCarley

Acoustic guitar, piano, and violins richly accompany the angelic voice of Miss McCarley on this beautiful track.  DJ Brian Oake of Cities' 97 can't get it out of his head and neither can I.

Featured Artist: Randy Newman
A few tracks from one of my all-time faves

While he has recently been in the spotlight for stellar scores for Pixar films such as Cars, the raspy-voiced Mr. Newman has also recorded some a diverse catalog of popular music.  His stripped-down Songbook offers a great sampler (including the fantastically tongue-in-cheeck "Great Nations of Europe"), but it's also worth checking out "Feels Like Home" from his most recent release.  Check out my entire Top 10 List of Randy Newman Songs and let me know what you think!

The Gem
A lesser-known song that deserves more attention

"Fix You" by Coldplay

I'm not a big fan of Coldplay's more intense songs, but this ballad is absolutely beautiful.  To be honest, I first heard the song sung in the movie Young @ Heart (where it was sung a couple octaves lower), but I couldn't get it out of my head, so I downloaded this brilliant version.

Folk Fascination
Good old fashioned music with acoustic instruments

"Danny's Song" by Loggins & Messina

I suppose it's a bit of a stretch to call this folk, but I don't think you'll here too many screaming guitars in this timeless classic.  "Even though we ain't got money, I'm still in love with you, honey!"

Aaah Cappella
Unaccompanied Treasures

"Blackbird/I Will" by The Swingle Sisters

Although Beatles covers rarely measure up to the originals, special consideration needs to be given to this medley of two of my favorites by the Fab Four.

Kiddie Corner
Quality music for kids and adults alike

"Go for G" by They Might Be Giants

One of many great tracks on one of several TMBG kids albums, this one stands out for its fun tune, whimsical lyrics, and the fact that it celebrates the first letter of my family name.  The kids love it!
