Featured Artist: Stevie Wonder
A few tracks from one of my all-time faves
My Top Ten Stevie Wonder Songs list only touches the tip of the iceberg of what this man has done. Even if you didn't like his music, you'd still have to appreciate his incredible singing, keyboard, harmonica, and writing talents. By the way, Stevie recently received the prestigious Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Music (he is the second recipient of the award following Paul Simon). I'm not sure - Is that a bigger honor than impressing Paula Abdul on his recent American Idol appearance?

The Gem
A lesser-known song that deserves more attention
"Instead" by Madeline Peyroux
You may recognize Miss Peyroux's distinctive throwback vocals from 2004's "Don't Wait Too Long" or 2006's "I'm All Right". This song is stylistically similar and has an upbeat message for these difficult times. Definitely worth a listen!

Folk Fascination
Good old fashioned music with acoustic instruments
"Operator" by Jim Croce
When it comes to quality singer-songwriters, you don't mess around with Jim. My personal favorites are "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown", "Car Wash Blues" (a favorite of my Uncle Dale), and this appealing broken-hearted melody.

Aaah Cappella
Unaccompanied Treasures
"Rain, Rain, Beautiful Rain" by Ladysmith Black Mambazo
Like most people, I first heard and saw Ladysmith Black Mambazo when they were introduced by Paul Simon on his Graceland album. Soon thereafter, this song became popular for its use in 7-up commercials. Twenty-two years later it still holds up quite nicely on its own.

Kiddie Corner
Quality music for kids and adults alike
"Sisters and Brothers" by Marlo Thomas & Friends
I have vague memories from my childhood of the "Free to Be You and Me" album. This funky song and the title track were my favorites despite the fact that I probably didn't understand the message they were trying to get across.
