Song of the Month
(Hopefully) something new for you to check out
"Fireflies" by Owl City
The lyrics are a bit cheesy and the singer sounds like a little like Weird Al, but the overall effect of this well-produced electropop track is magical. On your visit to Owl City, be sure to check out "Hot Air Balloon" and "The Bird and the Worm" for more aural delights.

Featured Artist: Van Halen
A few tracks from one of my all-time faves
In case you haven't noticed, I'm really not a hard rock guy. Thankfully Van Halen has put out a ton of great pop music in addition to their stadium-shaking tunes, and there's no time like summer to crank it up. Check out my Top 10 Van Halen Songs list and let me know what you think.

The Gem
A lesser-known song that deserves more attention
"The Rainy Season" by Marc Cohn
Sure, everyone knows him as the "Walking in Memphis" guy, but he's got a bunch of great songs including "Silver Thunderbird", "True Companion", and this bluesy track from his underrated second album.

Folk Fascination
Good old fashioned music with acoustic instruments
"If I Had a Boat " by Lyle Lovett
Is this really a folk song? Maybe not, but Lyle's acoustic guitar and the whimsical lyrics make this one of all-time favorites. It's been covered by many, but the original is still the best.

Aaah Cappella
Unaccompanied Treasures
"Kiss Him Goodbye" by The Nylons
This is the song that got me into A Cappella music. It's catchy, upbeat, and one of the first songs from the genre to get mainstream radio play. Sure, the pre-programmed beats are a little dated and there are much tighter groups today, but you can't knock a pioneer.

Kiddie Corner
Quality music for kids and adults alike
"The Fox" by Nickel Creek
This tale of a mammal's nocturnal journey is a classic campfire song. It reminds me of my father and Uncle Dale melodically recalling the days when they lived in a mighty fine town-o.
