Featured Music for September 2009

Song of the Month
(Hopefully) something new for you to check out

"Release" by Sister Hazel

You probably know this group for their 1997 breakthough single "All for You", but they've been making good music in the meantime.  This acoustic rock breakup song is from their August 2009 release.

Featured Artist: Ingrid Michaelson
A few tracks from one of my all-time faves

Ingrid was my first featured artist in April 2008, but my website and description didn't really do her justice.  Since then I've seen her perform in Studio C at Cities 97, she's released two great albums, and I created a Top 10 list of her music, so I think it's time to give her the props she deserves.

The Gem
A lesser-known song that deserves more attention

"Eye of the Hurricane" by David Wilcox

One of my all-time favorites, "Hurricane" tells the tragic story of a motorcyclist's demise.  Thankfully, the brilliant guitar work and catchy chorus wipe away any hint of sorrow from Mr. Wilcox's best song.

Folk Fascination
Good old fashioned music with acoustic instruments

"Summer Song" by Chad & Jeremy

I first heard this song on the Rushmore soundtrack and continue to include this 1964 hit in each one of my personal summer soundtracks.

Aaah Cappella
Unaccompanied Treasures

"A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square " by Manhattan Transfer

This song itself is terrific, but this outstanding a cappella version makes it even better.  It may even rival their classic "Birdland" version for the Transfer's best track.

Kiddie Corner
Quality music for kids and adults alike

"Hakuna Matata" from The Lion King

One of my favorite movies of all time, The Lion King featured "Circle of Life" and "I Just Can't Wait to Be King", but this carefree duet between a warthog and a meerkat might just be the best of the three.
